My last weekend in Australia I spend in Tasmania with someone who became very special to me. Visiting the last state in Australia made me realise that this part of the journey really is about to end. On the bike I visited 6 states (Western Australia, South Australia, Victoria, New South Wales, Queensland and the Northern Territory) and the other two (Australian Capital Territory and Tasmania) I flew to. In all these places I’ve experienced the natural beauty of the country and the kindness of the people. It is hard to believe I really will be leaving Australia in 3 days. The country that was home to me for the past two years. And the country that inspired me to keep on travelling. The great experiences I had here, and the amazing people I met, have made me decide to continue travelling on the bike. So as awesome as it was, it’s time to move on.
Writing this blog I’m in Darwin staying with a great friend who is helping me out big time. I’m looking at a pile of stuff that needs to be orderly organised on the bike before shipping it tomorrow… Tomorrow!! Packing actually becomes easier and easier the longer you are on your way. Mainly because the amount of things I have with me is getting smaller. Being a girl it still isn’t easy leaving behind your favourite dress, or that top you were wearing on that great night out… So therefore I tend to put things in boxes, to keep them for when I do live in one place. My belongings will soon be spread over 3 continents, I have boxes in the Netherlands and Australia for things I don’t take travelling. And the rest will be on my bike with me in Asia.
Taking a motor bike overseas isn’t easy. It involves quite some paperwork, organisation and, when things go wrong, some headaches too. But to take my own little chook chaser with me is worth it. Once the bike is on the boat it will take 2 weeks to arrive in Dili, East Timor, and another week to get through customs. So in the meantime I will go over to Bali to do some scuba diving over there. Then I fly to Dili to pick up my bike and start travelling through Asia around October 1. I’m excited!!
Ps. For those of you who would like to correct my definitions of states in Australia. I am aware ACT and NT are territories, but having to explain that only makes matters more complicated 😉
